CREA is a women’s human rights organization. CREA empowers women to articulate, demand and access their human rights by enhancing women’s leadership and focuses on issues of sexuality, sexual and reproductive rights, violence against women, human rights and social justice.

CREA was formed by a group of development professionals who have been working in the diverse fields of reproductive rights, sexuality, violence against women, media and women’s human rights.

The group’s experience coupled with discussions and consultations with experts, donors and others in the field established the need to form an organization focused on developing the leadership capacities of women in addressing issues of sexuality, violence against women, gender and human rights.

CREA was formally registered in India in April of 2000, and in U.S.A. in 2001. The long-term vision is to create a strong women’s human rights organization based in the global South but one that works at local, regional, and international levels. CREA furthers its vision through its affiliate offices in New Delhi, India and New York, U.S.A.
