The Lesbian and Gay Studies Project (LGSP) at the University of Chicago is an integral part of the University's Center for Gender Studies, coordinates graduate and undergraduate courses, provides research grants and dissertation-year fellowships to graduate students, co-sponsors the bi-weekly Gender and Sexuality Studies Workshop, and organizes research projects and conferences.
The LGSP provides an interdisciplinary locus for faculty and graduate students who study and analyse: the historical, cultural, and textual construction of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and other queer identities, cultures, and politics; these formations or the dominant culture and social theory from the perspective of queer theory; and other critical studies of sexuality. LGSP offers undergraduate and graduate courses on Critical Studies of Sexuality; the History of American Sexual Subcultures; Ideology, Culture, and Sexuality; Social Movements; Queer Representations in Film Before Stonewall; and other subjects.
