Post doctoral fellowships

Within the AIDS Research Institute is the Centre for Aids Prevention Studies, which offers two or three year Postdoctoral Fellowships for training in epidemiology and public health and other in studies relating to the prevention of AIDS. The Collaborative HIV Prevention Research in Minority Communities in the United States unit assists investigators doing HIV prevention research with ethnic minority communities to improve their programs of research and obtain additional funding for their work. Scientists are funded to spend six weeks during each of three summers at CAPS as well as receiving additional funding for their research projects. The CAPS/Fogarty International Traineeship in AIDS Prevention Studies (I-TAPS) Program has conducted over 100 joint projects with scientists from Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe. Intensive short-term training program are conducted annually for a select group of developing country scientists. These scientists visit San Francisco to design AIDS prevention research studies for implementation in their home countries, or to prepare scientific manuscripts based on their research.
