Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) OpenCourseWare (OCW)

MIT OpenCourseWare is a free, web-based publication of virtually all MIT course content at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Lecture materials, course reading lists and other resources can all be downloaded from the MIT website. Two courses are particularly relevant for students of critical sexuality studies.

Gender, Sexuality and Society

This course seeks to examine how people experience gender - what it means to be a man or a women - and sexuality in a variety of historical and cultural contexts. It explores how gender and sexuality relate to other categories of social identity and difference, such as race and ethnicity, economic and social standing, urban or rural life, etc.

Sexual and Gender Identities

This course introduces scholarly debates about sexual identities, gender identities and expressions, and sexual orientation and its representation in various media. It begins with an investigation of the theoretical underpinnings of the emerging field of queer studies, from the nineteenth century to the present day, and considers how subsequent work in transgender studies continues to challenge traditional understandings of sex, gender, and sexuality.
